A popular FIVE day GROUP walking tour, the Salkantay Trek follows a different part of the traditional Inca trail and includes a full day visit to Machu Picchu.

DAY 1- Pick up from Cusco Hotel starting from 0600 and drive out to Mollepata. Continue to CruzPata and on to Soraypampa at 3850m. After lunch we trek to Soyrococha at 4250m, passing the Humantay snow-capped mountain perfect for photos. Arrival into campsite after approx 4 hours trekking for hot tea and dinner. O/N
DAY 2 – After an early breakfast we begin an ascent to Salkantay at 4600m- a trek of approx 2 1/2 hours rewarded by great views of the Andes range. The afternoon is a descent to Chaullay at 2900m taking about four hours with geography changing to tropical jungle. O/N
DAY 3 – Walking a narrow mountain trail through the small pueblo at Colcapampa, fields of orchids and a beautiful jungle waterfall. We arrive at La Playa in time for lunch then take transport to Santa Teresa when we set up camp. Option to visit the medicinal hot springs (highly recommended) Dinner at camp. O/N
DAY 4 – After breakfast we walk for a couple of hours to the Inca site at Llactapata, from where the view is across Machu Picchu to Salkantay mountain peak. We descend into the valley and follow the road to Hidroelectrica where the train for Aguas Calientes. However after lunch, we will trek the three hours into town. O/N
DAY 5 – After an early breakfast, we trek for 1 1/2 hours up to the majestic Inca city at Machu Picchu. The local guide will give a detailed tour explaining the history, culture and customs of the Inca and the archeological site. There is plenty of time to explore solo and possibility of climbing Huayna Picchu (entrance not included). Finally in the afternoon we will take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes (Fare additional) and take the train to Ollantaytambo. Here transport will be waiting for the return to Cusco and drop off at your hotel.
