This tour is the one we get asked for most often. If you aren’t going to Uyuni salt plain in Bolivia, then a Day Tour Salta to Salinas Grandes, Salt Flats in Salta Province is the perfect option for visiting the other world landscape of Salinas Grandes.
Itinerary Salta to Salinas Grandes
Pick up at your hotel in Salta in air-conditioned minibus and drive south through the verdant Lerma Valley, then into the Quebrada del Toro. We closely follow the route of the famous Tren a las Nubes (Train to the Clouds). We pass the many viaducts, stations and tunnels that made this line a feat of engineering for its time. Arrival at San Antonio de Los Cobres mining town in time for lunch at a typical restaurant (not included). We continue across the deserted Puna at 4000 meters and arrive on the Salinas grandes Salt Flats where we stop and walk around the piletas and shoot some salt flat special photos.
We drive down from high altitude along the snaking Cuesta de Lipan and into Purmamarca with a stop to see the 7-color hill and a visit to the plaza marketplace for local handicraft shopping before return to Salta City and drop off at your hotel at 19-20.00.
